Over the coming months, we are all facing a truly unprecedented situation. The global corona-virus pandemic is affecting all of our families, our businesses, our communities, and our way of life.
At Scarlett Fireplaces, we have been working hard to analyse every aspect of our business to ascertain which services and products we can safely continue to offer and which skills, tools and machinery we have that can help our local community alongside changing government guidelines.
The Scarlett’s team are practising social distancing measures, we are living with vulnerable family members and so we must find a safe way to interact with our customers and the wider community. Our Showroom at 164 London Road, will be closed until further notice, however, the office and phone will continue to be manned as normal during our working hours of 9am – 5.30am, Mon-Sat.
We hold a good level of stock and will be operating a home delivery service for stoves, fireplaces, stove glass, ropes, service kits, fireplace accessories, chimney products, appliance parts, kindling, fire lighters and bags of kiln dried logs.
Virtual office and showroom
We have developed industry leading design software, websites, mobile form apps and online tools, to enable virtual interaction with our customers throughout all of our business processes. From initial contact to planning, bespoke design, virtual site visits, quotations and instant unrivalled technical backup, we’ve got it all covered using tried and tested techniques. In fact there’s been no better time to sit back and design your perfectly unique bespoke fireplace with a high efficiency wood burning stove or look at the sustainable efficiency of your home and lifestyles.
It seems that the activity with the highest risk to us all will be home visits where we will require access to your property to undertake work or surveys. We can complete most technical survey visits using our remote design software and apps. It will be necessary to carry out risk assessments, case by case, and dependant on the work involved alongside up to date government guidelines relating to physical visits. Our skilled family work team live together and will continue to undertake our full range of specialist services where social distancing recommendations can be achieved at all times.
Servicing and Maintenance
With many taking advantage of being at home with a wood burning stove alight, it will be imperative for your safety that stoves and chimneys are still serviced, swept and checked regularly. We must find a practical and clinical way to undertake critical maintenance works over the coming weeks and months so that your appliances are ready to use safely when required. As a precaution, please check that your carbon monoxide detector is working properly and contact us to arrange delivery of a new one if required.
It is an important consideration when using a wood burner that the wood fuel is dry. We have always advised that logs should be purchased and stacked in a log store during spring to ensure low moisture contents when it is needed in Autumn, otherwise the only other viable option to ensure dry wood is to purchase it kiln dried.
Following new legislation from the government relating to the supply of wood logs and the impact of burning wet wood on local smoke pollution levels, it is important to get your wood delivered and stacked correctly over the next 2 months. We will be working closely with local tree surgeons, environmental groups and the wider community to ensure there is enough wood fuel for everyone who uses a high efficiency stove. Please advise others to not waste this precious renewable energy source and create excessive smoke by burning it in fire pits and open fires.
Our locally sourced wood log deliveries will commence as usual at the beginning of April 2020 if government allows. Logs are processed at our yard and either tipped on your driveway or stacked by us into your log store, this activity will be safe with no need for any social interaction. We will continue to supply and build our unique solar log stores for your garden.
Dont be bored, get involved
Life must go on!…. albeit in a different way to what we’re used to.
We know that it’s hard to look for positives in these dark times but, ever the optimists, Scarlett’s team will endeavour to ‘carry on as normal’ wherever we can while looking at ways to make the coming months as worthwhile and bearable as possible.
Look out for our social media games, competitions, blogs, videos and projects where we will also be addressing the other big issues of our time….air pollution, climate change and human sustainability.
Using our knowledge gained from running our sister company/ brand Scarlett Energy, we will discuss sustainable ways of efficient living through renewable energy, eco building techniques and local food/ fuel production in harmony with our natural green spaces. No need to be at home bored, there is lots to talk about!
We understand that life will be negatively affected across our community. Instead of standing around like spare parts, we are ready to help out the vulnerable, NHS and emergency services wherever our skills, tools and machinery can be of use. If you come across a local issue that you think we could help with, please contact us, we have a family work team from one household and we are ready to serve.
Our hearts go out to anyone who’s been impacted by the virus, either directly or indirectly. Our thoughts are especially with those who are sick, to whom we extend our heartfelt wishes for a full recovery. And we’re truly inspired by the selfless healthcare workers around the world who are on the front lines working tirelessly to care for people in need.
To our customers, family and friends, we wish you all good health, together we can get through this.
