Scarlett Fireplaces uses locally sourced reclaimed clay bricks to manufacture a range of brick slips for lining existing fireplace chambers or restoring original brick builders openings. We prefer to use reclaimed bricks because new bricks never give the authentic appearance, colours and textures found with original clay stock brickwork. Bricks in Essex and London were commonly manufactured locally using local clay which gave a unique soft red, yellow or multi coloured finish. Reusing bricks from old chimneys is a sure way to help restore the aged appearance of period fireplace chambers. we do not stick the brick slips to boards but lay them individually to suit. Using brick slip boards for fireplace chambers can be a quicker method for the less skilled tradesman but we feel that this method doesn't give a good enough effect.
